Texas Hold'em Poker Guide

The World Poker Tour, also known at WPT, is one of the most popular poker tournament series in the world. Debuting on the Game Show Network in 2002, the World Poker Tour was started by Steven Lipscomb, an attorney and television producer, and has flourished over the years. In addition to Internet satellite tournaments, the WPT hosts a variety of live televised tournaments throughout the year that bring celebrities, professional poker players and amateurs together to compete for cash and the prestigious World Poker Tour Tiffany bracelet, that has been awarded to WPT champions since 2008.

Though some of the games in the World Poker Tour series are invitation only, most are open to anyone who is able to afford the buy-in fee, which can range from $2,500 to $25,000. This makes for an exciting mix of professional and amateur players and has resulted in a number of amateur players winning and becoming millionaires in an instant! Professional and amateur players alike may also win entrance into WPT games by competing in satellite tournaments. Satellite tournaments have much lower buy-ins, but provide the winners with entrance into larger, more prestigious tournaments like WPT.

The World Poker Tour hosts Texas Holdem tournaments. The WPT use of Texas Holdem rules is one of the largest factors in the recent explosion of Holdem poker on the Web as well as in live casinos, pool halls and Friday night poker games around the globe. Watching famous professional poker players and celebrities play Holdem online has given the game new appeal.

Since January 2008, the World Poker Tour has hosted a series of tournaments for women only as well. WPT Ladies hosts five events throughout the year and buy-ins range from $300 to $1,500. The final table in the championship event is televised.

If you are a skilled poker player looking for prestige and fame, you could just be the next winner in the World Poker Tour!
